The advertising for Moreton Island says “ Escape the fake”.but after our four day stay I found this this to be totally misleading as we all found it to be “unreal…….”
We arrived at Gordon Country just after lunch on Saturday afternoon. We were instructed to sign in at the office on arrival, so that is what we did. After that we proceeded to camp to find we were the last family to arrive. So, with that comes writing the trip report. The funny thing was Ollie and his family had only arrived 10 minutes before us, but we didn’t see them sign in at the office.

Officially our meeting time is 10.30 am Saturday morning in Bundaberg at a secret location. However many members have chosen to drive up Friday, even this early in the weekend we have three nominees for “froggy awards” or should that be “forgets awards”.
We’ve had a pretty good autumn really. There’s been plenty of rain and the Scenic Rim is greener than usual for this time of year. That has extended over the range and throughout the Southern Downs. That is, except for The Springs, just south of Warwick. It’s dry here and the tracks are splitting in layers as you drive over them. So what was normally easy is now eventful. What was hard is now extreme and un-drivable.
There’s really only one word you can use to describe Swan Gully. When you consider it is only an hour and a half away from Brisbane and close to a large rural town with all the services and, fortunately, all the spare parts required for 4WD’ing there is little else around to compare it to.
Besides, we are a 4WD club aren’t we? So doing a trip to a 4WD park so close to Brisbane would be on everyone’s “to do” list right?
Perhaps not.

Sunday morning and I arrive at our meeting point nice and early , or so I thought. I look around and see seven cars, among them a Jeep, the Tonka truck and the “ Land Rover “ at least I should have some good subject matter to write about” However I soon find out that the Jeep belongs to our visitors and Jill will be driving the land rover today as Brian’s recent contributions to the green frog is causing financial strain on the family budget. That still leaves the Tonka truck……and myself.
