Cape York Touring Trip June-July 2024

Full Details:

We are conducting a touring trip to Cape York via Cooktown and returning to Brisbane via Lawn Hill National Park.  You can come on the whole trip or specific parts of the trip depending on the time available.  The trip with three main elements (subject to minor variation):

• Brisbane to Cooktown (06 – 16 June)
• Cooktown to Cape York to Palmer Roadhouse (17 June – 06 July)
• Palmer Roadhouse to Lawn Hill NP to Winton and Brisbane (06 – 17 July)

Places intending to visit include Cape Melville, Chilli Beach, Thursday Island, Weipa, Pennefather River and Old Coach Road.

You will need to be self-sufficient for camping and have a 4wd vehicle in good condition with at least a 2” lift and aggressive all-terrain tyres and carrying suitable recovery equipment.  All costs are to be covered by trip participants.  There will be permits ferry costs and camping fees along the way.

Off-road-capable camper trailers are fine.  We will be going via the Old Telegraph Track but only talking about the river crossings that are deemed safe.
