About the Driver Awareness Training

Queensland 4x4 Club bylaws state that all participants of trips above a medium rating must have successfully completed the Club's Driver Awareness training or have a National Accreditation Certificate.

The aim of the short program is to ensure a common basic level of driver awareness and skill to ensure the safety and enjoyment of club trips.  It ensures that our members have had the same structured training and are at the same competent level of 4WD driving.  Members who have previously attended the training are more than welcome to attend again in order to refresh or hone their skills in a controlled environment.

The Driver Awareness program is free to financial club members and is run on demand within the local area.  The program runs approximately for a fun-filled day, with theory aspects in the morning and then a drive to practice the theory components learned.  It covers the following topics:

  • 4WD Knowledge and Theory
  • Pre and post-trip vehicle inspection
  • Stall start techniques
  • Recovery techniques
  • 4WD Driving Skills

Bring along:

  • All vehicle recovery gear (please refer to HERE for minimum club requirements)
  • Lunch, snacks, water & beverages
  • Full tank of fuel
  • Pen & Paper
