Well where do we start, I guess at the beginning where it all started from at the Caltex Big Fish northbound on the highway at Caboolture with Rudi & Adri, AJ & Bronwyn, Alex & Lauren, David M & Rob, and visitors Warren & Pauline joining us for the weekend.
We all met at the tavern car park and yes trip leaders get the trip report due to being the last ones there, so sad. Really the Caltex car park wasn’t the correct spot but, being last we had to fold to pressure?
We signed in, did the club spiel, and off we went up the highway heading for a great weekend away. There was a slight scenic drive through Cooroy and of course, it was meant to be, just to throw the group into believing I took the wrong turn, but I knew where I was. The next little town to have us driving through was Pomona, which then led us in the direction of the Cooloola Way, where we had a morning tea stop at Harry’s Hut. From there traveling up the Cooloola Way heading towards Rainbow Beach, we stopped off to have a little play on a creek crossing. It was about the only true dirt 4WDing for the weekend, as the rest of the track had been graded recently making it a rather easy drive.
We arrived at Rainbow Beach for some to have a bite to eat and get the last-minute supplies. Gathered all together again, we trekked on to find a spot to set up camp at Inskip Point. The fun now begins, setting up camp, a few beverages, fixing up the Wilkinson’s swag, lazing about on the sun lounge, thank you Adri, and getting ready for happy hour, the most important hour or two of the day. After happy hour Sylvia convinced everyone to go for a leisurely walk along the beach to capture some of the awesome views. It was time to head back to camp and that’s when we found some intruders, well David & Robert had decided to come up a day earlier and make it an overnighter instead of a day trip on the Sunday only. Time to have a couple more beverages as you do before starting dinner. Once again there was no fire due to a fire ban, saying that it was a warm night.
Competition between a few camps was had as to who could snore the loudest during the night. Not calling a winner though!!?
The next morning some (Rudi, Adri, David & Rob) had already decided that they would pack up early and have a fine dining breakfast experience in the high life of Rainbow Beach instead of cooking, so the rest of the group met up with them later in town. After meeting up we headed off to Double Island Point via Freshwater track to the surf side due to Mudlo Rocks being unpassable. The freshwater track was the smoothest most of us a seen in years. Anyway, we all got to the calm side of DI and set up for a swim, stand-up paddleboard, and lunch. I will say that David & Rob once again began their unpaid part-time job whenever they bring their stand-up paddle boards along and became instructors (mighty fine ones at that). They had Sylvia up on that board with only 2 falls in the beginning, but in know-time they had her paddling around like a pro, (well maybe not a pro, but enough to end up costing me money, she wants one now). Lauren then had her turn, once again great paddling (oh, to be young, she made it look so easy).
It seems some unknowns decided to add some excitement to their day on the other side of the lagoon, let’s just say they should take some advice and check the depth of water when trying to cross on high tide. Interesting to watch but glad we were well away from it all in distance. Oh well, once that fun was over and lunch was eaten, it was time to head along the beach and head home.
We aired up at Noosa Northshore, with some of the group heading home and the others decided to head to a local craft beer brewery in Tewantin, where we decided to have a bite to eat for dinner and a drink to wash it down.
Overall a great weekend was had by all.
